The ultimate love

Hi Chic Crew! Since we are in the month of February, it's only right that I post about LOVE. I'm actually in a season where I'm learning what love truly means. I realized that my love for God and probably others was really shallow. I had not allowed myself to experience the fullness of God's love so it has been difficult for me to love others properly. I am currently reading a book entitled "A NEW WAY TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR" by Jada Edwards. Ya'll this book has been checking me left and right! So much so, I had to fill you in on my top 3 takeaways so far (I'm about half way through the book). So let's go!

  1. Agape is the goal- We all have our own definition of love based on our upbringing and experiences. AGAPE (greek) is defined as a selfless, unconditional, and sacrificial love. This is the type of love that God has for us, and also the love he is requesting we give to others, even people outside of our relationship circles. Uh, OK, it's going to take a lot of intentionality to even get close to this level of love.

  2. Heavenly Father v.s. Earthly Father- In the beginning of the book the author creates a parallel between the love that we experienced, or lack there of from our earthly fathers, and the love from our heavenly father. My mind was blown! When I dug deeper into my personal experience I saw how the gaps match up to how I love God and what I believe about his love for me.

  3. Check my kindness-Can kindness have motives? Eek, I realized that it can! The kindness that I show to a friend can under the surface be about me. When being kind I need to consider what the person really needs, not what I want to give them. Consulting God first about what the person in question really needs. Have ya'll ever received a gift or gesture you didn't even know you needed? For me it feels like a weight was lifted.

Overall, we have to debunk what love looked like growing up. Love is an action and a choice to do whats best for the receiver. Love reaches out first even when it's tough. Love pursues.

God is love :)
